5 Tips for Affordable Decorating with Sweetwater Decor
Coming home from college and living with your family can be a weird feeling, especially if you're in school far away and don't make it home often. Even though I don't know where I'll end up living after graduation, I've found that investing in my bedroom decor at home in Portland - making my room "grow up" with me - throughout the past few years has helped minimize the feeling of limbo when I'm home for breaks or the summer.
I had so much fun putting together this frame arrangement on a big open wall in my room and wanted to share my finds with you - plus a few tips to make decorating easier!
I had so much fun putting together this frame arrangement on a big open wall in my room and wanted to share my finds with you - plus a few tips to make decorating easier!
- Look on Pinterest or in magazines to find inspiration. Are you into fashion prints? Florals? Script? Get some ideas in mind before you spend any money!
- Find one to three main pieces to build upon for your gallery wall. For me, it was the "She Turned Dreams Into Plans" and "She is Clothed in Strength and Dignity" prints from Sweetwater Decor. I built the rest of the pieces around those two. My grandmother always said things look best in odd numbers, but I added in the oval frame because I couldn't resist tying in some more gold!
- Look around your house for empty frames, pieces of scrapbook paper or fabric (the rosette print on my wall was my great-grandmother's!), or small mirrors. You'd be surprised at what you or your mom has hidden away in the attic or basement! Don't forget that a little gold metallic spray paint on an old frame can make almost anything look fab ;)
- Check discount aisles of stores like Tuesday Morning and Marshalls for prints and frames. The "You are My Sunshine" canvas was so cheap - and I had to have it because my dad always sang that song to me when I was a little girl!
- If you already have a frame and print, getting the print matted professionally is worth the extra time and effort - and is usually very inexpensive. Both of my Sweetwater prints look so nice now, and the Kate Spade postcard could probably use the extra TLC too!
Some things I've found and loved while doing some Pinterest dreaming are watercolor floral motifs mixed with beautiful script writing on stationery and prints... thus I stumbled across Sweetwater Decor (also on Etsy, with a few more selections).
These prints were just the inspiration that my space needed - and pairing them with a $5 canvas from Marshalls, floral fabric found in mom's sewing box in a gold frame, and a postcard from my last Kate Spade order made for a very affordable and chic gallery wall. My frames are also from Marshalls and were all under $15! I linked a few other cute ones below - all under $50 with many even cheaper options :)

Yay! I love it. You've inspired me to start brainstorming for my own gallery wall!
