Navy & Neons

Share It:

Hot color combo of the spring? Chartreuse, navy, and hot pink - without a doubt in my mind. I threw together this super comfy outfit for work today and realized that I'd been repeating the color combination for a few weeks now. Kate Spade inspired? Quite possibly.

Navy is the neutral of the moment - it takes a pop of color down a few notches gives any outfit a preppy vibe. My crochet shorts can be dressed up with an oxford or tunic as shown here, but are comfy (and stretchy) enough to function as a bikini coverup, as well. Definitely my favorite find from last year's Lilly sale! My favorite Kate Spade cross body and navy Ikat-print Jack Rogers (from Nordstrom Rack, which never fails me) finished off the look.

Also, if you haven't been able to tell... I'm really into these Kate Spade lookalike earrings. Francesca's, girls! Best place for fun, trendy jewelry and it will not break the bank. Unfortunately, they don't carry these earrings anymore (which I got in three other colors) but I linked a similar pair below.

Happy shopping!

Exclusive: See the complete Lilly Pulitzer x Target Collection

At this point, nearly every college girl out there knows that Lilly Pulitzer, the source of our beloved brightly-printed, preppy spring formal dresses, is collaborating with Target to create a collection that will be unveiled on April 19th.

I've heard mixed reviews about this - some people think that Lilly shouldn't be available to people who can't afford it full price, and that now Lilly's pristine reputation as the uniform of upper-middle class (who stereotypically are southern and white) ladies will now be tarnished.

Come on, girls.

Most of you reading this are quite possibly college students or might have been at some point. If that is the case, you very likely are aware of how challenging it can be to uphold standards of fashion and current on-campus trends while operating on a very tight budget.

Lilly Pulitzer and Target are teaming up so that this brand that brings so much happiness and color into so many of our lives can now be accessible to people of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds (and college girls who don't have a whole lot of cash) without the stigma and price tag attached.

Where, I must ask, is the issue with that?

Whenever I can get Lilly on sale, on EBay, or secondhand, I am one happy girl - and you should be too. Can't wait for the 19th!

Mid-Week Inspiration

Share It:
Thank you, Pinterest, as always, for the graphic
Hi! It's a dreary Wednesday here in Ashland, so I've been perusing Pinterest for a little motivation to get me through the rest of the week. Here's what I came up with -

This quote is SO applicable to every single thing we do in life. I feel so strongly about MAKING time for others, for myself, and to get all the "extras" taken care of. You have to make time in order to get a workout in. You have to make time to call your mom and dad at home. You have to make time to clean off your desk and make your bed.

It's about making time to make your life easier and full of love and joy. Having time for things makes them feel like a chore - but if you set aside time, you make a special moment for yourself or for others - whatever you're doing will feel like a treat.

And that, my friends, is what will get us through our Wednesdays.

Lilly & Kate for Easter Brunch

Share It:

Welcome back! It's been a while - sorry for my absence - I was lounging around over spring break and had to hit the ground running once I got back. I want to share my Easter outfit with you and a few of my favorite spring trends - like mid-length skirts, bright bold colors, and stripes.

I grew up in a family that always made celebrating Easter a priority. We would get new clothes in pastel colors and get all dressed up to head to morning Mass. We would do Easter egg hunts and Easter baskets and a big brunch. Later on, we started going to the Easter Vigil Mass the night before. My little brother and I would do readings or participate in the service some other way.

As a college student, Easter has become less and less of a focus as the years have gone by. This time around, my boyfriend and I met my extended family at the Cathedral in downtown Richmond and went to Kitchen on Cary for brunch - it was a lovely morning with perfect weather and great company :)

But back to why we're here - what did I wear

The full Lilly skirt I have on here felt kind of fifties-inspired, my $9 earrings from Francesca's looked like Kate Spade (I couldn't find them online, sorry!), and my bright almost-neon accents brought Kate to mind as well.

Unfortunately, I don't have a photo to do my accessories justice - I had to connive my boyfriend into taking these on our way back to the car after brunch (what an angel) and didn't want to push my luck.

For spring and summer, I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for full, knee or mid-length skirts in bright colors to pair with tops like this one - stripes are always a good idea! I think a chambray button up (no surprise there) would have worked, as well.

Have any tips on where to find more skirts like this one? Please share!
